I WISHED TO ATTEND BECAUSE:
I wanted to understand the international and intergovernmental work of various NGOs at work for women’s rights, and for women from rural communities, and women working in media and with ICT.
Sizani Ngubane is this year’s NGOCSW Woman of Distinction awardee, nominated by IAW
Keynote speaker was Sizani Ngubane, Founder of Rural Women’s Movement South Africa and this year’s recipient of CSW’s Woman of Distinction Award. Sizani was nominated by the International Alliance of Women for her remarkable work.
AT CSW62 IAW and CFUW were shortlisted to make this oral presentation to the Commission on the Status of Women. The presentation was made by Amanda Keeling, Australia
IAW calls for a strengthening of gender respective accountability mechanisms to ensure that rural women and their organizations can influence policy formulation, implementation and monitoring at all levels of government with a view to enabling rural women to hold all duty bearers to account.

It would be difficult to underestimate the political significance of the franchise in creating an international movement which would unite women across the world in a common cause.
