Saroj Nalini Dutt Memorial Association - Centenary Celebration Report
by Aparna Ghose, the Secretary of SNDMA
On January 19th, 2025, the Saroj Nalini Dutt Memorial Association stood on the brink of a momentous milestone – its 100th year of service as a social organisation. To commemorate the death centenary of its namesake, Sarojnalini Dutt, the Association, according to tradition, held a solemn Prayer Meeting. This gathering featured soulful renditions by Krishnendu Sengupta and Bubu Sengupta, who sang songs cherished by Saroj Nalini Devi herself. Sutapa Roy Chowdhury eloquently read excerpts from the life of this remarkable woman and passages from various religious texts, emphasising the profound message of “unity in diversity” that transcended barriers of place, language, age and other distinctions. The dress code for staff was white as a solemn token of the seriousness of the occasion.
To honour this significant journey, the Association recognised the invaluable contributions of its dedicated staff by presenting each with a plaque featuring their personalised photograph. Distinguished guests graced the occasion: Indrajit Sen, Managing Director of International Combustion (India) Limited, a prominent figure in the engineering and industrial sectors and Sutapa Biswas, Co-founder and Director of the Cancer Foundation of India, an NGO tirelessly working towards early cancer detection among the masses. Aditi Choudhuri, President of the Association, delivered an inspiring address, outlining the organisation’s mission and vision. The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Vice President, Sujata Mallick, followed by a contributory lunch and cake cutting ceremony.
